Itinerary
01 MON. Lisbon . –
Welcome to our circuit!
Transfer to the hotel and free time.
In the afternoon you will receive information about the start of your tour, either directly or through the information boards located in the hotel reception.
March 2nd. Lisbon. –
In the morning, we’ll take a panoramic tour of the city, exploring the Portuguese capital of seven hills, its narrow streets and tiled streets, its sense of longing and nostalgia, and its Atlantic light. We’ll also visit the Belém district, from where the great Portuguese navigators set sail across the oceans in the 15th century. The afternoon is free for you to stroll around and visit the Bairro Alto and its viewpoint. If you wish, you can take an optional excursion to the towns of Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril. In the evening, we’ll return to the hotel from the lively Restauradores Square, with its bars and cafes.
03 WED. Lisbon – Lagos – Cape St. Vincent – Albufeira . –
We’ll depart early for southern Portugal. Enjoy beautiful scenery as we cross the long bridge over the Tagus River. We’ll arrive in the Algarve, the southernmost region of Portugal. We’ll visit the historic city of Lagos, with its strategic port from which Portuguese ships sailed to the African coast, and its historic center enclosed within its walls. Time for lunch. In the afternoon, we travel to the westernmost point of mainland Europe. Among ravines and frequent windswept landscapes, we’ll visit Cape St. Vincent. We’ll also have the opportunity to photograph the nearby Sagres Fortress. Afterward, we’ll have time in Albufeira, a beautiful coastal city. You can enjoy its beach or stroll through its lively historic center. Overnight in Albufeira or a nearby town in the Algarve.
04 THU Albufeira – Mértola – Évora. –
We travel to Faro, the tranquil city of the Algarve, for a stroll. We then continue our journey towards the Alentejo. On the banks of the Guadiana River, we visit Mértola, a walled museum-town, an important center during the Muslim era, dominated by its imposing castle that invites us to wander through its streets of whitewashed houses and corners steeped in history. Next, we travel to Évora, where we will visit the Chapel of Bones (entrance included), built with more than 5,000 skeletons, before enjoying this walled city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its medieval palaces, Gothic religious buildings, and ancient Roman temple.
05 FRI. Évora – Marvão – Castelo de Vide – Tomar – Fátima .-
Today we travel through the beautiful landscapes of the Alentejo region. We stop in Marvão, a picturesque walled town offering fantastic panoramic views of the area. Afterwards, we visit Castelo da Vide with its impressive castle. We’ll also have time to stroll through its old Jewish quarter, where we can visit the medieval synagogue (now a museum), or explore the town’s labyrinthine streets. After lunch, we continue to Tomar, a city dominated by the Convent of Christ, a former Templar castle-convent (entrance included). Before arriving in Fátima, we’ll stop in Aljustrel, the village where the three shepherd children who witnessed the apparition of the Virgin Mary were born. We’ll have the opportunity to see Lucia’s house. Upon arrival in Fátima, you’ll have free time at the Sanctuary of Fátima, where, if you wish, you can witness the candlelight procession (not held in winter). Dinner is included.
06 SAT. Fatima – Porto . –
We travel to northern Portugal. We arrive in Porto, Portugal’s second largest city, around 11:00 AM. After arrival, we’ll take a 50-minute boat trip on the Douro River aboard a “Rabelo,” a traditional Portuguese boat, to discover the city from the beautiful riverbank. Afterwards, you’ll have free time to stroll through the lively Ribeira district, with its narrow streets lined with old merchant houses and cafes, before heading to the hotel.
07 SUN. Porto – Braga – Bom Jesus – Guimarães – Aveiro – Coimbra .-
Today we have beautiful landscapes in northern Portugal. A stroll through Braga, Portugal’s religious capital, with its ancient cathedral. We’ll ride the world’s oldest funicular up to the Bom Jesus Sanctuary, enjoying breathtaking views. We suggest walking down to admire its magnificent staircase. Guimarães was the first capital of Portugal, and its Palace of the Dukes reminds us of this. Time for lunch. We continue our journey towards the Atlantic to Aveiro, “the Venice of Portugal” with its colorful houses. In Aveiro, we’ll take a ride on a Moliceiro , one of its traditional boats, and explore its canals and salt flats while sampling a typical sweet treat. We continue to Coimbra, arriving in the late afternoon. Dinner is included at the hotel.
08 MON. Coimbra – Batalha – Nazaré – Óbidos – Lisbon .-
Time in Coimbra, Portugal’s third largest city, known for its ancient university and charming, steep streets. We continue south, stopping at the Monastery of Batalha (entrance included), an impressive medieval mausoleum of kings. Time for lunch and a stroll in Nazaré, a fishing and seaside town. We include the funicular that takes us up to the old town with breathtaking ocean views. On our way to Lisbon, we stop in Óbidos, one of Portugal’s most beautiful villages, with its white streets overflowing with flowers. Lisbon, arrival around 7:30 pm.
March 9th. Lisbon. –
After breakfast, our services will conclude, with the hope of having provided an unforgettable experience.
