Day 2: Bangkok

After breakfast, visit three of the most unusual Buddhist temples in the city. We will start with Wat Traimit, located at the end of Chinatown, on Yaowarat Street, near the Hualampong train station. Wat Traimit houses the world’s largest solid gold Buddha, measuring almost five meters high and weighing five and a half tons. The tour will continue to Wat Pho, the largest temple in Bangkok, located behind the Temple of the Buddha. Here you will find the enormous Reclining Buddha and the Chedis of the Kings. It is one of the largest temples in the city and is famous for its gigantic Reclining Buddha, which measures 46 meters long and is covered in gold. Then we head to one of the city’s most famous landmarks – the Grand Palace. Built in 1782, it served for 150 years as the home of the King of Thailand, the Royal Court, and the administrative seat of government. The Grand Palace of Bangkok is an ancient building that continues to impress visitors with its beautiful architecture and intricate details. Within the complex is Wat Phra Kaew – ‘the Temple of the Emerald Buddha’ (officially Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram) – considered the most important Buddhist temple in Thailand. It is here that the country’s most revered Buddha image, meticulously carved from a single block of jade, is enshrined. Transfers included. Accommodation at the hotel.

Accommodation and breakfast.

Day 3: Bangkok – Chiang Rai

After breakfast, transfer to the airport to take the flight to Chiang Rai.

Arrival in Chiang Rai with the flight no later than 10:00 AM.

Proceed to Chui Fong, a beautiful tea plantation. In an environment surrounded by plantations on the slopes of small hills, you can enjoy various delicacies such as tea ice cream, tea cake (at your own expense), and lunch at a nearby local restaurant. Next, we will pass by an opium museum before heading to the Mae Chan district, north of Chiang Rai. Then we will continue on foot, climbing the hills through narrow streets to visit an ethnic minority village of the Akha and Yao people. Our last destination of the day will be one of the Karen villages, where we will meet this famous hill tribe – the largest ethnic minority group in Thailand. This tribe, originally from Tibet, migrated to what is now known as Myanmar about two thousand years ago. During the 18th century, it is estimated that political conflict and persecution led to their mass migration to northern Thailand, where they still reside today without official statehood. The tribe is best known for the Kayan women – a subgroup of the Po (Red Karen) – whose necks are adorned with brass rings. Sometimes starting as young as five years old, the constant pressure pushes their collarbones and ribs down, giving the impression of an extended neck; the reason behind their nickname ‘giraffe women’ – an amazing sight. To conclude, transfer to the hotel for check-in.

Accommodation, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 4: Chiang Rai – Chiang Mai

Breakfast at the hotel.

In the morning, we will transfer to the pier for a pleasant ‘longtail’ boat trip down the Kok River, passing Karen villages among other hill tribes. After exploring the small villages lost in the dense jungle, we will return to the pier to continue the excursion with the Blue Temple, Wat Rong Suea Tean, another unusual modern Buddhist temple distinguished by its intense blue color and elaborate statues. Then we will depart by road towards Chiang Mai (approx. 3-hour journey), stopping en route at Wat Rong Khun (nicknamed the White Temple), which was designed by a famous Thai artist. Upon arrival in Chiang Mai, we will have lunch at a local restaurant before our last stop of the day: Wat Doi Suthep. This magnificent temple is located 1000 meters high on the slopes of a forested mountain. Requiring a climb of 306 steps with Naga serpent handrails, this sacred temple offers a spectacular panoramic view of the city, as well as a great variety of images and frescoes to those willing to make the climb.

Transfer to the hotel in Chiang Mai for check-in. Dinner and accommodation at the hotel.

Accommodation, breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Day 5: Chiang Mai

Departure to the Mae Sa valley, visiting the orchid farm.

Lunch at a local restaurant, then we will transfer to the Elephant Sanctuary to learn about these giants and participate in various activities, including feeding and bathing them – an unforgettable experience.

In the evening, you can enjoy a Khantoke dinner: the traditional northern Thai style of eating. Seated on Mon Sam Lieung (traditional Thai triangular mats), food will be served on low tables while you appreciate a selection of northern cultural performances including: the charming Fon Lep (nail dance), Ram Dab (sword dance), Fon Thian (candle dance), and Ram Wong (circle dance). There will also be a special show performed by various members of the Yao, Lahu, Meo, Lisu, Karen, and more hill tribes. Return transfer and accommodation at the hotel.

After the visits, transfer back to the hotel.
