This morning, visit Old Delhi, passing by the Red Fort, built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan, and enjoy a rickshaw ride in Chandni Chowk, one of the oldest and largest bazaars in India. Crisscrossed by narrow streets with shops vying for space, Chandni Chowk evokes the feel of old Delhi shopping. Since the 17th century, this place has rightfully been called a “shopper’s paradise” in Delhi. During Shah Jahan’s reign, a tree-lined canal ran through its center, reflecting the moonlight. Hence the name “Chandni Chowk,” meaning “place of moonlight.”

Next, we visited Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India. We also visited Rajghat, the site where Mahatma Gandhi, the “Father of the Nation,” was cremated on January 31, 1948. Following this, we visited the Gurudwara, the Sikh temple, an architectural marvel. Sikhs, as part of their religious practice, perform Seva, also known as Sewa, short for Karseva, which refers to ” selfless service”—work or service performed without any thought of reward or personal gain. Volunteers who participate in Seva are known as Sevadars.

During your visit to the kitchen, you will have the opportunity to become a sevadar (a cook) and participate in the cooking process, making chapatis (Indian flatbreads), preparing lentils and vegetables, and serving the many people waiting for their food. It is a truly uplifting experience where you are giving back to the community. After lunch at a local restaurant, you will tour New Delhi, visiting the Qutub Minar, a gigantic 72-meter tower built by India’s first Muslim ruler, Qutub-ud-din Aibak. In the afternoon, you will tour the government buildings, including Rashtrapati Bhavan (the residence of the President of India), Parliament House, and India Gate (the Arch of Triumph).

*Accommodation, breakfast and lunch.

Day 3, March 19: Delhi-Udaipur (flight not included)

Breakfast. In the afternoon, enjoy a boat cruise (shared base) on Lake Pichola, visiting Jag Mandir Palace, followed by traditional folk dances in Lok Dharohar. Later, experience Holika Dahan at Jagdish Chowk. Holika Dahan is the first day of the popular Indian festival of colors called Holi. On this day, a sacred fire is lit on the full moon night of Phalguna (one of the 12 months of the Hindu calendar). According to Hindu mythology, it symbolizes the triumph of divine power over demonic forces. Most of the buildings were destroyed by the Mughals or submerged by the lake over the years. However, the pair of surviving 10th-century temples, known as ‘Mother-in-law’ and ‘Daughter-in-law,’ still offer a stunning glimpse into the city’s colorful history.

Of particular interest is the wedding area with its four ornate and meticulously carved pillars depicting embracing lovers, to which couples are expected to pay homage when visiting the complex.
